Foetal Medicine

The basic concept of fetal medicine is the concept of recognizing “The Fetus as a Patient,” and using various diagnostic procedures to determine the health of the unborn child. This specialty is a very recent advance in the field of medicine and deals with the diagnosis and therapy of fetal disorders. Development of fetal medicine specialty is due to the advances in fetal imaging techniques, remarkable progress in the field of genetics, and improvement in the skill of treating specialists. This has revolutionized the management of many fetal conditions diagnosed prenatally. Changes have occurred not only in technology but also in perceptions. All pregnant women worry whether their baby is normal or not.

Department of Genetics and Fetal Medicine at Fortis La Femme will be headed by Dr. Seema Thakur who has experience of working in this field for past 10 years. She achieved her superspeciality degree in Medical Genetics from Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical sciences, Lucknow. After this she worked as Consultant at Department of Genetic Medicine, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi. She has experience of counseling and prenatal diagnosis of families with common and rare genetic disorders related to all speciality of medicine
